The Olin>Fire>Aiko is most enjoyable. I wonder where the mic was. I thought I could hear some stage banter during Olin although it might have just been crowd noise.

Thank you Robert. Having a good day today. Still fatigued but getting stronger each day. Actually could have left work early and elected to stay around for a bit. The second set of this show is making it worth it.

Interesting mix, can't wait to get it on decent headphones.

Has someone already alerted them to the mislabeled files?

I am not a fan of Egypt run (always thought it was much ado about nothing to be honest), but I do appreciate the tip to a new source. ;)

Recorded in "KHAFRE'S TEMPLE NEAR SPHINX,
TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE MOON, 23º " - Bear

Better than a SBD & better than the theater aud: it's a Bear mix! Is this the fabled 'lost' relayed playing/taping from within the...? BTW:I think that L&R may be switched as I hear Bobby in the R channel & he was stage right (& Keith L channel vs stage left)in Egypt. My official GD CDs have a different mix but w/channels ~swapped).

Think of the audience of royalty (the spirit of Khafre)! & plenty of other of our kindred sisters & brothers of grateful dead from millennia past!

Also, does anyone know of a discussion (posted here OR elsewhere) of some(literal) grateful dead (not unlike the invisible playmates of Edgar Cayce's youth) making appearances at early tests or Warlocks shows, & perhaps having an 'unspoken' influence on, amongst other things, the naming of the band?

Just FYI, here's Betty Cantor, from THE DEADHEAD’S TAPING COMPENDIUM, vol. 2. Sounds like there were several tapes being made that night:

Interviewer: Tell me about Egypt.

Betty Cantor: Egypt was hot. We took a lot of junk to Egypt. Because Healy had a lot more to do with it, we had to have a truck. I was always more into building my own, putting things together, rather than hiring somebody else’s box. There was always so much crap in them. Anyway, we had this big truck. It was kind of a hassle for me because Healy came out and set the levels and John Kahn was there as the producer or co-producer or something. I was there setting everything up, but was expected to make sure it went on tape the way they wanted; compressors, eq[ualizer], whatever. In the end, I would have to be responsible for the sound of the tapes. Hey, not without calling the shots. That’s sort of like taxation without representation, isn’t it? Meanwhile, I’m totally involved in getting everything working, and here comes Bill Walton, crutches and all, wanting to make sure I had his cassette machine and feed together. I lost it. I told him, “Take your machine and get out of my face, before I shove it right up your ass.” I think that’s when we became really good friends. So, I’m working away and I finally just said, “Great, I’m out of here. Have a good time, guys. It’s set up and working, so now I’m going over here to plug in my regular split and I’m going to do a stereo mix of the show. I’m going to take my Nagra and do this other thing because I can’t deal with somebody else’s levels, their telling me to sit on that.” We never did do anything with the tapes; they weren’t very good.

Interviewer: Did you actually bring a self-contained truck over from the States?

Betty Cantor: No, we rented a mobile unit from Europe.

"from within the ..." - are you referring to that legendary entombed sound chamber?

Did they actually do that? I thought they tried and it turned out not to work.

Talking with Hamza about this curious subject, he told me that a great amount of effort was made on both the engineering and political fronts to try to pull this off. I know the band went into great additional expense, once they arrived at the site, to facilitate this grand experiment. Neither Hamza nor I know what was captured on tape that week towards those ends, but one can conjecture and hope that with all of the technical advancements since then, some driven soul with a mission may have been able to pull a rabbit out of a hat.

...exactly what I'm talking about & why I was inquiring about this. Perhaps those more knowledgeable about such things will illuminate.

...& furthur, seriously, those with stories of the *grateful* dead at the Grateful Dead will expound as well.

FYI: Khafre’s Valley Temple is described at http://emhotep.net/2009/08/02/locations/lower-egypt/khafres-valley-temple/

This appears to me to be outside of the Gizah Sound and Light Theater

"I'm sure I saw the Sphinx smile! " Richard Arridge
Don't ya know the Sphinx was never happier...

In case you don't read txt files, don't forget:

"We now return our souls to the creator,
as we stand on the edge of eternal darkness.
Let our chant fill the void
in order that others may know.
In the land of the night
the ship of the sun
is drawn by the grateful dead."

-- Egyptian Book of the Dead

...I can't believe no one is willing to talk about their "grateful dead at Grateful Dead show" experiences....
